K-Branding: Das Ding

Drum (computer), guitar, saxophone, voice (screams) and some additional electronics. That's all it takes for Sébastien Schmitt, Gregory Duby and Vincent Stefanutti to create a noisy free rock trip based on a (heavy) free jazz structure.

The CD-R starts with a "typical" guitar improvisation set that is accompanied by sax screams and Vincent's throat after a while. Slowly but effectively we end up in a very uptempo set. A hard-pumping and repetitive percussion set is the core of what is actually a very danceable number that surely did set the place on fire. After that, we arrive at a more noisier/improvisation set that - in the last song - vaguely refers to Hint (the French band consisting of Arnoud Fornier and Hervé Thomas) due to the way how the saxophone is used in this number and the overall mood which tends more towards darkness.

All in all, this CD-R gives a good impression on how the bands sounds (Das Ding was recorded live in Magasin 4 (Brussels) and released as CD-R in a limited edition of 100 copies on the Belgian FF HHH label in 2006) but as it is with this type of music, a live-set is still much better to go to.

Preferred Drink: Duvel
